Terre-Retexture in Oblivion Mod

Description

Umm, I am terrible at picking categories, is it digital since I drew the texture, or 3D art since it is on a model, or does that imply I made the model if I post there? Or is it game fan art, or does that require showing a character actually from the game? Mixed media maybe??? :O Help if you know for sure!
(Oh sorry about the cursor in the picture, I forgot to remove it before taking a sceenshot :dead:)

By Oblivion I mean TES: Oblivion the video game of course. This is the retexture project I have been working on for what seems like FOREVER. A few people have seen bits and pieces in previews, but it is probably long since been time to show everyone something since half of you think I am twice and dead as I really am and I am half as dead as twice of you may be after waiting so long.

My texture work is of the character only and every scale you see has been hand drawn or painstakingly edited a ton from the extremely low detail flat Istaria textures I used as a template. Some parts of the texture also contain bits from the original texture and all of the meshes that make the 3D model and the original texture are from ~DrakeTheDragon-1980's dragon race mod. The back mesh is edited a bit where the wings join from the original model, but for the most part I left the meshes the same. (I can't remember if the mods based off the first use the mesh I edited or also use the original) Maybe some day I will go in and try to make a head mesh that better resembles myself, but until then continue to use my drawings as a reference =P

Oh, I also made a normal-map layer for this texture and that makes the light reflect off of each scale and makes me sparkle in the lights when I play the game. It is really pretty and screenshots can not do it justice as the game does when every scale dances in the flickering light of a candle. The cracks between scales are made not to be as shiny and it looks really realistic to me. That layer is what makes the scales all seem 3D in that screenshot, the limbs are all flat and many of the models are ones from normal anthro characters so the normal-map is the only reason each scale looks like it is actually coming out of the body instead of flat. I can still hardly believe how games can create such amazing illusions that are so easy to use.

Oh, I made many extremely useful features that make recoloring this texture a snap and super fast for anyone that wishes to use this mod and create their own dragon. Male textures are all I have done so far, but really there is nothing realisticly different between genders of dragons so should not be a huge problem for non-anthro style fans. For others they just have to wait and routinely bug me to work on that if they want it done soon ;P Oh, and say something if you want to try coloring your own dragons to play in that game and I will try to find a way to link the files you will need and a short guide on how to do that.

Yep, this has probably been the most complicated art project I have ever done and over all I have been very pleased at how well it turned out. I think I learned a lot of neat new features of my art program and it will hopefully help me become even better now. I hope at least a few people will have the chance to use the files I have made to play as their own dragons. You would likely be amazed at how easy I have made these to edit. Drake's mod and many great derivitives are available on TesNexus. Perhaps future versions of the mod may even include some textures made from my work.

Be sure to go bug ~DrakeTheDragon-1980 if you want to see more of his modding or throw lots of cookies at him for furthing dragon kind's future domination of the gaming world! He is fun to talk too, but I never asked what cookie flavor he likes best so you may need to guess :cookie:
